What a Strange Box!

[Mirru's living room. There is a couch in Centre Stage, facing the audience, and a television Downstage, facing the couch.]

[Ryu enters from Stage Left, takes a seat on the couch.]

Ryu: What the heck is this thing? What are all these flashing pictures? I swear, this world is so strange... All these odd boxes and other weird objects...

[Ryu exits Stage Right. Tatarime enters from SR, takes a seat on the couch.]

Tatarime: Seriously, what is it? It doesn't make any sense. The pictures seem to be moving... And what are all these buttons and knobs? I've never seen anything like it. [Tatarime stands up to get a closer look. he turns a knob, then recoils in surprise when the television begins to make sound.] What the heck is that? Weird...

[Tatarime exits SL. Uragiru enters from SL, takes a seat on the couch.]

Uragiru: What is this thing? What are all these moving pictures? And where is that sound coming from? [Uragiru stands up and begins walking around the television, trying to look for the source of the noise. He stops on his second time passing the front, pressing his ear to the speaker. He recoils in surprise when his eardrum is practically blasted out.] Ow! That hurt!

[Uragiru smacks the side of the television and exits SR. Taigazou enters from SR, takes a seat ont he couch.]

Taigazou: In all my years, I have never seen anything like this. Well, it's quite obviously a box with moving pictures that make noise. But, other than that, I have no clue what it could be. What is it's purpose? I can't tell...

[Taigazou exits SL. Ryu enters from SR, and Tatarime from SL. They both take a seat on the couch.]

Ryu: Tatarime, what do you make of this strange box?

Tatarime: I don't know. I mean, it appears to be some sort of moving picture frame that makes noise.

Ryu: Noise? I didn't even notice that.

Tatarime: I turned one of those knobs along the side, and it started making noise. It caught me off-guard.

Ryu: Ah.

[Uragiru enters from SR and takes a seat between Ryu and Tatarime on the couch.]

Tatarime: What do you know about the box, Uragiru?

Uragiru: Well, it appears to be a picture frame with moving pictures. The sound is coming from a bunch of holes on the bottom.

Tatarime: Interesting...

[Taigazou enters from SL and sits in the only vacant spot on the couch next to Ryu.]

Ryu (with a look of surprise): Lady Taigazou? What are you doing here?

Taigazou (with a smile): No reason!

Tatarime: Lady Taigazou, what do you make of--

Taigazou (interrupting Tatarime): What do you guys think the purpose of this noisy picture frame could be?

Uragiru: Your guess is as good as mine.

[Ryu and Tatarime shrug. Mirru enters from Upstage Left.]

Ryu: Mirru, what is this box?

Mirru (giggling a little): This? It's a television.

Taigazou: What does it do?

Mirru: It's meant to entertain people.

Uragiru: That makes sense. What are those holes at the bottom?

Tatarime: And what are those knobs and buttons?

Mirru: You really are clueless about this, aren't you? The holes are speakers. They vibrate to make sound. As for the buttons and knobs... the buttons change the channel, and the knobs adjust the volume and screen.

All but Mirru: Oh.
